“Eight years ageing for this Albariño from the granite-soiled region of Rias Baixas has left the wine a glowing gold in colour with beguilingly developed aromas of nuts, sweet balsam and wet moss on old stones. The wine is unoaked, so all of that aromatic richness is coming from the fruit itself and time’s work on it. In the mouth, it is rich too, but dryly so, gracious and expansive, and beginning to hint more clearly at ground stone than to the summer fruits and flowers of youth, with that incipient nutty richness providing further complexities
Straw yellow colour with golden hues, clean and bright. On the nose: Roasted, with funds fruit almibarados, very mature fruit, memories of baked apple and baking, a result of the 6 years of ageing on lees.On the palate Soft on the attack, emerges with an acidity very well integrated, volume, and long persistence. The Fillaboa 1898, an albariño of age that maintains the freshness of the albariños young people and the complexity and elegance of the great white wines.
About the Winery:
Bodegas Fillaboa is owned by the Masaveu family, who traces their winemaking history to the 14th century, almost the beginning of Spain’s wine tradition. Although the family has since diversified into different business sectors, about 30 years ago Jose Masaveu Herrero decided to resurrect his family’s winemaking past with the purchase of Bodegas Murua in the D.O.Ca Rioja.
